IEA-IEF-OPEC Gas and Coal Market Outlook Symposium
Paris, France
As gas and coal are forecast to continue to meet an important share of global energy demand, there is a clear need to improve understanding of these markets.
The G20 Cannes Summit Leaders’ Declaration in November 2011 requested “further work on gas and coal market transparency” and asked “the IEA, IEF and OPEC to provide recommendations in this field.” In addition the declaration called for “annual symposiums and communiqués on short-, medium- and long-term outlook and forecasts for gas and coal.”
In response to the G20 Leaders’ request, IEA-IEF-OPEC will organise their first joint symposium on “Gas and Coal Market Outlooks” on 4 October 2012 at the IEA in Paris. The overarching objective of this symposium is to increase transparency in gas and coal markets. The symposium will therefore focus on the outlook for the respective markets, both from a producer and a consumer perspective. Subsequently, it will assess the fundamental drivers that support each outlook and discuss potential game changers in these markets. Regulatory reform in the energy derivatives markets and the evolving role of finance will also be addressed.
