IEF Special Gas Market Dialogue
28 October 2021, Virtual Event
The recent rise in global natural gas and power prices along with low inventory levels represent a challenge to energy security and market stability, with impacts that will be costly and potentially dangerous for consumers.
As the winter season of peak demand approaches in the northern hemisphere, the crisis will likely deepen.
As a result, there is a need for enhanced international dialogue between gas producers and consumers, and greater cooperation to strengthen the resilience of energy systems, protect the vulnerable and mitigate the risks to the global economic recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the IEF Special Gas Market Dialogue, energy ministers of both producing and consuming countries gave their assessments of the current situation. Leading figures from industry and research institutes provided their expert views into the causes of the crisis, its impact and the outlook.
This meeting was part of the IEF’s commitment to convene global energy dialogue between producer and consumer nations to enhance energy security and market stability.
